Car logos are some of the most highly-recognized symbols in the world and none more so than luxury car logos. Thus the challenge of ranking the logos of some of the coolest brands on the planet was just too good to pass up. Scroll through our rankings to see who comes out on top!
16. Bentley - The response was fairly universal on the Bentley logo - it's not overly distinctive, not overly memorable and is completely overshadowed by the great body style of the car itself and the iconic hood ornament. Unfortunately the Bentley logo just couldn't quite measure up to the other luxury car logos on our list.15. Maserati - While more interesting and distinctive than the Bentley logo, our team of logo experts found the Maserati logo to be severely lacking in personality. Maserati is a great car and has a great brand, but this logo just falls a little flat.14. Aston Martin - While the James Bond has made the Aston Martin the epitome of cool, the logo for this iconic brand falls woefully flat. It's nice to look at, sure, but the Aston Martin logo is not nearly distinctive enough to be considered one of the best.13. Tesla - Tesla is by far the newest brand on this list and while they get our praise for a bold logo, the design is not quite appealing enough to be put higher on our ranking. What we do appreciate is the attempt to do something different, which is an important distinction being that Tesla is one of the only electric luxury car brands on the market.12. Lincoln - On the whole, the Lincoln logo is not that bad. It's got a nice, appealing shape, classic colors that are ideal for a high-end, luxury brand, but the one thing that is holding Lincoln back is that it's just not all that memorable. It's a solid logo to be sure, but not one that sticks with you.11. Rolls Royce - "Excuse me, do you have any Gray Poupon?" Apologies - we just had to do it. The Rolls Royce logo is much more interesting and distinctive than most of the other logos that placed lower on this list. The use of a gradient background is interesting, but what we really like is the double "R". Simple, classic and elegant - just as a luxury car logo should be.10. Alfa Romeo - While many of the logos on this list are almost devoid of personality, the Alfa Romeo logo is overflowing with it. This classic colorful logo is one that was quite polarizing for our panel and while it's by far one of the most original logos, it's not quite to the level of the greats.9. Cadillac - For decades, the Cadillac was the ultimate status symbol of "making it" in America. That nostalgia and history plays heavily into what makes this logo so great. It's also one of the most unique logos out there with the multi-colored shield. That being said, it's a logo that is hard to replicate and doesn't scale easily, which is one of our criteria when evaluating these logos. All things considered, Cadillac comes in right in the middle at number 9.The Logo Design Book8. Infiniti - The look of the Infiniti logo represents the high end look so well that there wasn't much we didn't like about it. It's got a nice shape and most importantly, it looks like a luxury vehicle logo. The only reason it came in towards the middle of the pack was that the other logos on this list are just that good.7. Lexus - The Lexus logo is a great example of what understated simplicity can do to make a brand look great. This logo and the distinctive font choice are both highly memorable and are distinctive enough to get Lexus noticed. It's a logo that just looks like it fits on the luxury cars it represents.6. Jaguar - Yes, it's a jaguar and that automatically makes the Jaguar logo infinitely cooler than almost every other luxury car logo. The positioning and action of the jaguar itself highlights the motion and excitement of the brand. All around, a stellar logo.5. Lamborghini - And not to be outdone by the jaguar, Lamborghini's iconic bull slides in at the number 5 spot. The bull is the perfect representation of absolute power and it's rendering in black and gold makes the Lamborghini logo both highly memorable and highly desireable as a luxury car logo.4. Porsche - That Porsche pony may be the ultimate symbol of exotic luxury and we love every bit of it. While very intricate, the Porsche logo is also gorgeous and so recognizable. That sheild is an emblem that any car lover is proud to own and it is a perfect fit with the gorgeous cars that it represents.3. BMW - The BMW logo has become in many ways the status symbol of choice for many Americans. It's distinctive blue and white checked pattern is so simple yet elegant that the BMW logo is recognized the world-over as a symbol of quality and luxury.2. Audi - Speaking of simple, elegant logos, the Audi logo is one that is hard to knock. The interlocking circles are such a simple statement, but effortlessly beautiful. The Audi logo earned a near-perfect score from our judging panel and it's not hard to see why.1. Mercedes Benz - And this is it - Mercedes lands the top spot on our Definitive Ranking of Luxury Car Logos. The Mercedes Benz logo is a textbook example of what a logo should be: highly memorable, scalable, aligns with target market and overall, it's just a really good looking logo. Congrats Mercedes - you've earned it!
When The Logo Crew For Logo Design Studio Pro took on the challenge of ranking all of the luxury car logos, it was not a challenge that we entered into lightly. We are well aware of brand ties and allegiances that might have swayed our voting process. That is why we came up with an impartial rating system to help us clearly distinguish the best from the rest. Here was the criteria used:
Memorability - How memorable is the logo?
Scalability - How memorable is the logo? How well would the logo translate into different sizes or colors?
Relevancy - How appealing is this logo to the target market? (In this case, high-end, luxury buyers)
Personality - How well does the logo convey the personality of the brand?
Overall Appearance - How attractive is the logo overall?
We took every logo and had each member of our esteemed Logo Crew panel rate each logo against each criteria and then added up all the scores. Some of the results were surprising and others were quite expected. Either way, we're confident that the results will speak for themselves.
